Episode 22: Jon Scott

Today on Conversations from Here I speak with Memphis-raised author of "Tom Petty and Me"-- the former DJ and music industry promo man JON SCOTT! Throughout his decades in the music world, he has the distinction of having worked with some of the biggest names in the business. He is also the guy who, in 1977, boldly pushed for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers to be heard on the radio, despite resistance from the powers-that-be at ABC Records. The rest, as they say, is history. His epic friendship with Tom lasted 40+ years, until Tom's untimely death in 2017. We talk about EVERYTHING-- including a whole lot of Tom Petty stories involving acts of kindness, record industry craziness, funny faxes and the friendship of a lifetime. In true Southern fashion, it's a long chat, but well worth your time. Settle in-- and enjoy!

(PS: Please forgive the odd little transition at around 1:13:34 where I pause for a bathroom-break! But we get back to discussing "Damn the Torpedoes"....)
